Explore Grassington

The beautiful town of Grassington is only a 5 minute drive from us here at Long Ashes Park and despite being small is a real hub of the local area. With a wonderful sense of history, lovely independent shops and welcoming locals all set within the stunning scenery of Upper Wharfedale you’ll want to visit time and time again. It also has a real claim to fame with being one of the locations of filming for the Channel 5 remake of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ where it was transformed into the village of Darrowby during 2019. Filming for season two is also scheduled to take place soon so you might even get a glimpse of cast and crew when you’re next able to visit!

During more usual times Grassington is a place where there is always something to do and get involved in. Our favourite is the Grassington Festival, a real spectacle within this beautiful Dales village of comedy, music, workshops and family events just to name a few!

A little later in the year sees the 1940’s Weekend which returns on Friday 17th – Sunday 19th September 2021. The cobbled streets are brought to life with live music, military displays and classic cars and don’t be surprised if you spot a face you recognise among the crowds, Churchill himself has been known to attend…

Though it’s a while off, the Dickensian Festival is not one to be missed and makes the Christmas period even more magical. Put a note in your calendars that it will be returning on the 4th, 5th and 11, 12th December 2021 for the 40th Anniversary. You’re sure to be transported back to the time of Dickens with villagers and visitors alike dressed in Victorian costume. With a traditional Christmas Market, shops brimming with gift ideas, a Santa’s Grotto and a torchlit nativity procession alongside street entertainers and bands there’s something for all ages. All made even more enjoyable with a mulled wine or hot chocolate in hand of course!

Even if you don’t happen to visit on one of these weekends you’ll still have plenty to do, clothes shops sit next to interiors, and there are art galleries, jewellers and wine merchants – just to name a few! Friendly locals and shopkeepers all combine to make Grassington a place where visitors are more than welcome and combined with a backdrop of stunning Yorkshire limestone scenery you’ll look forward to your visit to Grassington every time you stay with us!
